Why Should We Meditate?

A student on the Spiritual Path asked me, “Why should we meditate?”

People take up Meditations for different reasons to begin with. They take up Meditations usually to find solutions to their various problems—health issues, financial difficulties, problems with relationships, to overcome stress, to find peace and so on.

After they spend some time meditating, they realise that there is a greater purpose in taking up Spiritual Practice. They become aware of higher Truths, higher realities, and their problems either get resolved or they begin to look less important or trivial.

As they spend more time in their Sadhana, their goal shifts from solving their problems to achieving higher Spiritual goals.

Their goal keeps expanding, and ultimately, they set their goal on attaining freedom—to free themselves from all bondages and to become Light, and go back to their Source.

Our Source is Light. Our Source is God. Our ultimate goal is to go back to Him and become Him.

Until we reach the highest goal, Meditations help us live this life sensibly, peacefully and fully.

Living this life in this moment properly is most important. If we live properly in the present, the future is taken care of automatically.

So, we take up Meditations for many reasons in the beginning, and ultimately, to become Light. (Based on the teachings of Guruji Krishnananda)

Retiring from the World

A student on the Spiritual Path asked me, “When should we retire from the world?”

This is a decision that can only be taken by the individual. I cannot tell you when you should retire.

But I can give you some general guidelines.

What exactly do you mean by retirement? Is it giving up all your responsibilities, going to Himalayas and meditating in a cave?

In which case, you have to make arrangements for your responsibilities to be taken care of by someone else. We can’t just run away. We have to take permission from the people who are connected to us, who are dependent on us.

There must be a higher purpose in taking such retirement. Is it to take up intense Sadhana?

This world is our place of learning. This world is our University. And this world is a very beautiful world. We should not think of giving up this world and going away somewhere.

Where do we go from here? To which other world or area? God has gifted us this beautiful world.

We have come here to live in this world and not to retire or escape. This is very important. (Based on the teachings of Guruji Krishnananda)

Witness your thoughts

At any given time our mind is full of many types of thoughts and emotions. Most of them are so unimportant, so unrelated to the purpose of our existence. These thoughts and emotions have caused so much damage, wasted so much of our life, we have forgotten the real purpose of being born here.

Please understand that we are not these thoughts and emotions. We are different from them. We are Light. We are Love. We are Peace. We are Truth.

These disturbing, angry and unhappy thoughts and emotions are not ours.

Try to be a witness to your thoughts and emotions. Do not identify with them. When you become a witness, you will automatically distance yourself from them.

When you are a witness to your thoughts and emotions, you will find them very amusing. You will wonder at the number of thoughts that come and go. Let them pass. Do not let them in.

We unnecessarily get involved with them and spend all our energy and time on them. We will have no peace. When we create a distance between ourselves and our thoughts, we feel that they are so unrelated to us.

So, be a witness, distance yourself and reject them. When we try to be a witness, we don’t feel disturbed. We will be at peace, and we allow others also to be at peace.

Quotes from the Rishis - Real Guru

“If we are sincere about our Spiritual growth and make sincere efforts, the real Guru — God, will guide us directly & no middlemen are needed.” - Guruji Krishnananda

From 28th June to 26th July 2014, we receive the Highest and the Purestenergies directly from the Source of All, the realm of God Himself. Known as the Ashada Masa, this period is like a gift from God, and is most suited for intense Meditations.

The energies that the earth is receiving keeps increasing in intensity and reaches the peak on 12th July 2014. This day receives the maximum energies and is known as Guru Poornima.

The Sacred month of Ashada Masa

On 28th June, we entered the most auspicious month of the year, known as Ashada Masa in Sanskrit. This is the month during which we receive the Highest and the Purest energies directly from the Source of All, the realm of God Himself.

Since these energies are so powerful, there are no inauspicious moments in this month. This period is like a gift from God, and is most suited for intense Meditations.

In the past, people knew about the sacredness of this month and therefore, they would not waste any time in worldly matters like marriages and other celebrations; they would spend all their time in Spiritual activities that would help them advance spiritually.

Over the years, this knowledge got distorted and people started believing that Ashada Masa is inauspicious for worldly activities. Its importance for Spiritual activities was forgotten.

The energies that the earth is receiving keeps increasing in intensity and reaches the peak on 12th July. This day receives the maximum energies and is known as Guru Poornima. The real Guru is God Himself, who takes us from darkness to Light. The month ends on 26th July.

So, let us make the most of this Divine Gift of Ashada Masa by meditating and channelling Light as much as possible and spread peace to our troubled world. (Based on the teachings of Guruji Krishnananda)

Quotes from the Rishis - Turbulence

“Turbulence in life is a test. To pass the test and enter the Light Age, we must give up the old ways that come in the way of our Spiritual growth and learn to manifest Love and Light.” - Guruji Krishnananda

On Spirituality

What is Spirituality? Visiting Temples, performing Poojas, observing Vratas, going on pilgrimages, giving alms, performing Homas & Yagas, reciting Vedas, singing Bhajans ... all these activities, are good. When understood properly they transcend from religious to Spiritual.

If we can recognise the presence of God in everyone and everything, if we can perform work as service to God, then the work in the office, driving a bus, selling a thing or polishing a shoe becomes Spiritual. The demarking line between the Material and the Spiritual vanishes. Whole life becomes Spiritual.

Tuning to God is Spirituality. Tuning is Yoga; the Union. We need not go through postures and breathing exercises. We can establish the contact with Him in the hour of Meditation and keep it alive in the other hours of work and rest. (Written by Guruji Krishnananda)

The Scientific Way

The scientific way is of Inquiry; questioning. It is an open-minded probe into the Unknown.

Nothing is accepted blindly. Nothing is rejected also blindly. And it is here that many blunder. They reject the Unknown as false when the small frames of our infant science fail to capture it. Blind faith is not good. And blind non-faith is also not the refuge.

An open-inquiry without accepting or rejecting anything is the way of science; the scientific temper. Spiritual phenomena and matters are the common victims of blind rejection.

A Rational approach is essential to the Spiritual Science. The Kundalini and the Chakras are not 'seen' but have been accepted as facts. But the existence of 'unseen' Rishis is disputed as blind faith!

The physical eyes are not the only “eyes”. Opening up of the other eyes is the first step of a Rational; a real Rational. The Scientific Way. (Written by Guruji Krishnananda in 1989)

AKSHAYA TRITIYA – 2nd May 2014

The festival of Akshaya Tritiya will be celebrated on 2nd May in 2014. The Spiritual relevance of this day was explained by Guruji Krishnananda, a Great Spiritual Master. The word ‘Kshaya’ means dissipating or reducing; hence the word ‘Akshaya’ broadly means perennial abundance. A special energy from Mahavishnu is available on this day. This energy can help us in achieving our resolutions and goals. New projects can be started on this day. If we already have projects then these will be strengthened. We can also make resolutions for our Spiritual as well as our material goals. This is because #Vairagya is not renouncing or negating life but it is non-attachment.

Here’s a technique – We can think of this energy as a male form, because it is a part of #Mahavishnu. We can offer energies, pray and make our resolutions. Then we can continue with our regular Stage #Meditations. We should ideally meditate during Sandhikalas or transitory time phases of the day i.e. 6 am / 12 noon / 6 pm.

Moderation is Spiritual

(Based on the teachings of Guruji Krishnananda)

A serious and sincere meditator told me that she does not feel like meeting people anymore. She says she wants to avoid people; if she has any visitors she will be waiting for them to go away. And she enjoys being alone.

It is a natural and good development. It is good to enjoy being alone. But we must remember that we live in a world that was created by God for us. God gifted us this world. We should not isolate ourselves from the world, from people.

Any extreme is not Spiritual. Moderation is the Mantra.

We have to spend time alone each day. When we are alone, we are with God.

But other people are also God. The world is God. We should not keep away from them.

When people stay away from others for long, they begin disliking them. The dislike may lead to a hatred of the world outside. This is not right.

We should not hate anyone or anything. We should not judge or criticize anyone.

The world is not perfect. We are not perfect. We are in Times of imperfection.

But we are moving into the advanced Times of the Light Age, where we all enjoy living a perfect life in a perfect world.

While we wait for such advanced times, let us follow moderation, avoid extremes and live a balanced life.

Quotes from the Rishis - Life-force

“Manifesting the life-force in abundance is a great Spiritual achievement. When you are in a mood to sing, dance and live, you will be manifesting life-force and fulfilling the purpose of life here. When you manifest life-force, the whole Universe will help, guide and inspire you.” - Guruji Krishnananda

TIMELESS TRUTHS

The opening statement of A Course in Miracles, which has teachings from the Jesus Christ, reads - “Nothing real can be threatened. Nothing unreal exists. Herein lies the peace of God.”

In the Bhagavad Gita, Chapter 2, Shloka 16, Lord Krishna teaches – “The unreal hath no being: the Real never ceaseth to be. The truth about these two has been perceived by the seers of Truth.” (Translation from Sadhu Vaswani’s The Bhagavad Gita: The Song of Life)

Guruji Krishnananda has taught that the whole Creation is made of Light, Consciousness or God. Without Maya we can see only Light. Maya is a gift. It is not a curse or a limitation. God gave us the faculty of #Maya through which we could see the Creation as He created it.

When #God created many beautiful earths, mountains, trees, butterflies, etc. we found that we could see only Light everywhere. Maya helps us see things as they are created. Everything is Light. Since Light is the Source of everything and Light is real, hence all the forms that emerge from #Light are also real.

Thus Creation is real, not an illusion. Guruji taught that to believe Creation as permanent is an illusion.

Creation and our life in it are as real as we want it to be.

William Shakespeare said this in his own way – “All the world's a stage, and all the men and women merely players; they have their exits and their entrances, and one man in his time plays many parts.”

The same timeless Truths are taught by Masters in different periods of Time or #Yugas. Such Truths remain the same for every human being throughout history irrespective of their cultural, social, religious, regional and gender identities. Immense gratitude to the#Spiritual Masters and my Spiritual Guide - Guruji Krishnananda.

Quotes from the Rishis - Do not shun this world

“A Spiritual person does not shun this world or his responsibilities. He lives and loves life fully and has a positive influence on the world. A Spiritual person deals with upheavals with equanimity.”

“When you realize that you have committed a mistake, do not judge harshly and condemn yourself. Repent it deeply and decide never to repeat it. This will free you of the Karmic effect.” - Guruji Krishnananda
